Getting lost in the pages

It’s been a while

I originally wrote this post in about November of 2024, but am actually posting this in March of 2025. I started
getting a little bit in my own head - who is reading this and why should they care? Do I sound arrogant? Are people
going think differently about me after reading this? Similar to the impetus for the first post - there was a blog
post the gave me the kick I needed. People aren’t being
forced to read this - they can leave anytime they want. I’m doing this for myself.

Running away from my problems

Introduction

I’m starting this blog post the day after I finished my first Half Marathon, which was an amazing experience. I’ve
never really identified as a runner (or a fitness enthusiast in general), and wanted to document my fitness journey on
how I got here, and what my goals are going forward.

As a kid, I did a couple of physical activities, mostly spurred by my parents. This included Taekwondo, baseball,
and even a basketball camp one summer. In high school, I actually chose to do something out of my own volition,
which was recreational soccer. That was pretty enjoyable, I even made a couple friends (one of which I would later
end up rooming with and introducing to his now wife). With all of these activities, I never really made much of an
effort to be good, I was mostly just along for the ride. Athletic was never really a word I would have used to
described myself, but things started to take a turn for the better a couple years later.

Shrivar's First Blog Post

Introduction

Starting a blog has been an idea in the back of my mind for quite a long time. I purchased shrivar.com back in October
of 2018, almost 6 years ago. I actually populated the site with a basic setup in March of 2022, but never got around
to actually publishing a post. In this inaugural post, I want to explore

Why I want to start a blog

Why it took me so long to actually make this first post

Why a blog?

I want to start out with a huge shout-out to Neel Nanda, and specifically, this
post about blogging, which was really the straw that broke the
camel’s back. I stumbled upon Neel’s blog in a random hacker news comment,
and soon started reading through all his posts. His journey was fascinating, and his writing exposed me to novel
ideas that were really impactful (some of which I’ll reference in this very post).

Who are you?

As you probably guessed from the name of this website, my name is Shrivar. I try to be passionate in every aspect of my life,
and this blog is intended to hopefully share some of that passion with the world (and my future self)

Some of my current interests include

Software/Management

People typically spend ~40 hours of their week at work - often more time than they spend with their families. I try to stay engaged with my day-job, and hope to help others do the same.

Music

Music has been hugely influential in my life, and I am constantly immersed in it. The emotional resonance music can create is incredible. I’ve made an effort to travel to see some of my favorite artists live, even though my inner introvert screams no.

Relationships

Relationships are one of the most important things in my life. I want my greatest legacy to be the impact I made on the people around me.

Fantasy Books

2024 was the year of Brandon Sanderson for me. I love the world-building and diverse characters the genre allows for. I do try to branch out from time to time, but Fantasy is definitely my comfort genre
